Altitude Sports and Entertainment Welcomes Katie Gaus to Avalanche Coverage
Altitude Sports & Entertainment announced today that they have named Katie Gaus as a new television reporter/host for coverage of the Colorado Avalanche and other programming on the network.
Gaus will immediately join the network as the Avalanche continue their quest for the Stanley Cup. (They clinched their spot in the Stanley Cup Finals on Monday night after defeating the Edmonton Oilers in an overtime win.) She will then be fully integrated into the network’s programming for the 2022-23 NHL season.
When discussing the move to the Avalanche broadcast team at Altitude Sports, Gaus shared her excitement. “I am honestly thrilled beyond words to be joining Altitude Sports as the new host and reporter and getting the chance to take a huge step forward in my career working with such an incredible crew at Altitude.”
As part of her new role, Gaus will contribute to all gameday coverage, including pre-game and post-game shows, as well as the Avalanche flagship show, Avalanche 360. In addition to her coverage of the Avalanche, Gaus will also co-host and report on several Altitude shows including You Bet Tonight and Golf at Altitude.
Beyond the incredible career opportunity, Gaus is particularly thrilled about the prospect of watching the juggernaut Avalanche up close. “I have watched the Avalanche from afar for quite some time and been blown away by the skill, depth and speed of this group - so to have a chance to be up close and personal covering them every night in front of some of the best fans in hockey is a dream,” Gaus said. “I recently took in my first Avs playoff game and holy smokes - I knew Avs Faithful could bring it, but that was something special - what a crowd!
Gaus joins Altitude after spending the past three seasons as an in-game reporter and digital host for Bally Sports Florida, home of the Florida Panthers. Prior to that, Gaus was a color analyst for the Premier Hockey Federation, covering women’s hockey. She has also spent time with the United States Hockey League as a Media and Communications Coordinator.
Avalanche fans can quickly liken themselves to Gaus, who has had hockey in her veins from a very young age. “I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and started playing hockey when I was about 8 years old (after convincing my mom to let me ditch the figure skates). There weren’t any girls teams when I started so I played with the boys and I think that made it even more fun for me being the only girl on a team.”
“During college I played club hockey while also getting my start in broadcasting as the men’s hockey rink-side reporter - it took me about :30 seconds of standing ice level reporting to realize I had found my calling. From there I climbed my way through everything from the AHL to local tv, even juniors before landing in Florida.”
Gaus finished with a simple message: “I worked as the rink-side reporter for Bally Sports covering the Panthers for the last three seasons, but I’m trading the beaches for mountains, and I couldn’t be more excited to get started!”
While one of the newest voices of the Avalanche is ready to make the move to Denver, Vice President, General Manager, and Executive Producer of Altitude Sports and Entertainment Matt Krol is just as ready to welcome her to an already talented broadcast team. "We are thrilled to have Katie join our broadcast team and be part of our Emmy-award winning coverage of the Colorado Avalanche. Avs Faithful will see that Katie's hockey background and knowledge will bring a unique perspective that is both informative and entertaining, and I'm looking forward to that combination enhancing our broadcasts for many years to come."
